Tasting tantalizers @ Wasabi

Cooler box

A very cool cooler box

When we are on the road we are always looking to get our products into new venues, and sometimes this means pounding the pavements and trying to get to see the right people many times before having success. And then on occasion a meeting evolves which brings out the passion and love on all sides of the table and a delightful experience that was appreciated by all.

Wasabi Asian Restaurant

Treat your tastebuds

This was the case with Wasabi Asian Restaurant in Constantia Village, where we visit Jeremy at Riedel Aroma weekly to ensure his excellent store is always well stocked with our products. I had been into this exciting restaurant a number of times before I cornered MD Warren Fischer at the bar and introduced him to our catalogue.

“We need to do a tasting,” Warren said. “You bring the beer and I’ll provide the food because I’m looking for good beer.” Continue reading

Ommiberg and other March events

Ommiberg Fest

Party around the Rock

This weekend sees the Ommiberg Round the Rock Festival happening in Paarl. It’s Pick n Pay Argus Cycle Tour weekend and so there are going to be loads of visitors driving around the Mother City and surrounds and so we are looking forward to multitudes of wide-eyed, eager tourists arriving at the Laborie Lazy Days Market.

Laborie, Paarl

A good place to chill

Of course Laborie Wine Estate is a participating estate and apart from all the other activities they have planned, our market times have been extended for Saturday from 09h00 – 17h00. More time to sell more beer, spirits & liqueurs by educating people and opening their minds to some of the beautiful flavours and textures available. Why drink it just because your daddy did? Drunk as a Monk? Abbey Beer’s best!

WLRB

And you?

Yesterday our membership to the group We Love Real Beer was confirmed and one of the beers that we will be presenting is the Mardesous Abbey Beer collection, produced by the Belgian Duvel Moorgat Brewery since 1963. What an awesome collection! Never mind that the three beers have a little more alcohol than the average, they each have amazing personalities and flavours!

Blonde & Brown

Blonde or Brunette?

It’s not the kind of beer that you take a 6-pack of to watch the rugby, because you probably won’t make the second half! The beautiful Blonde teases you at 6%; the sexy Brown is passionate at 8%; while the Triple is the one your mother warned you about at 10%! Continue reading

Little Known Blues Festival

World Focus team

The Trader Trio

Having been a part of the South African music scene for many years I really enjoy attending events that promote our many talented musicians from the Cape. Now we’re out there selling awesome beers & spirits which makes for an even more relaxing atmosphere in some really great settings.

This weekend (Saturday 15 January) we’ll be a part of the Little Known Blues Festival being launched at Bloemendal Wine Estate in the Durbanville hills, and we’ll not only be whetting your whistle, but hopefully also providing a bit more of an education as to what makes a great beer stand above the rest! Beer festival of the year at Hillcrest!

Durbanville Beer Fest

Pour that man a Duvel!

For those who missed out on the Durbanville Beer Fest held at Hillcrest Wine Estate this past Saturday – you missed out on the party of the year and what is probably the best beer festival we’ve been to. The weather was perfect for a relaxed day lounging on the grass listening to some excellent music with some very fine beers to choose from.

We’d been expecting the Cape Doctor to blow the head off every beer we poured, but in the quarry at Hillcrest we were pretty well sheltered. Sunscreen flowed, shade brought strangers together and altogether not one complaint was heard from any of the beautiful crowd. Continue reading

Cape Town Festival of Beer 2010

CT Festival of Beer

Supporting micro-brewers!

We had great pleasure being a small part of the first annual Cape Town Festival of Beer last week – we saw it as a good way to get to know more about the wide variety of beers out on the market, and this seemed to be the perfect place to gain some knowledge. And boy did we learn fast!

Of course my personal feeling was that we were at the busiest stand, but then it was pretty impressive as we did have 15 beers on offer and so there was something for everyone who came to join us. Continue reading

International Bar @ Obz Fest 2010!

Obz Fest 3 - 5 December 2010

International Bar @ Obz CAfe

Obz Fest is this weekend (3 – 5 Dec) and we are very excited that we will be supplying a wide range of beers to the international bar at Obz Cafe!

From Friday you’ll be able to enjoy a super smooth Fosters draught (Australia), delight in a Valentines Weiss beer (Germany), be tickled pink with a Liefmans Fruitesse (that’s a Belgian cherry beer), sample the Erdinger Dunkel or Kristal (Germany) over & over, or just decide that the Duvel (Belgium’s 8.5% beauty) is just the best beer in the world. The local representatives are from Durban (Shongweni Brewery) with the Robson East Coast Ale and the award-winning Robson’s West Coast Ale – the only South African beers included in Ben McFarland’s book “World’s Best Beers – 1000 Unmissable Brews” Continue reading
